Metals
Your choice of metal will be decided on your budget. Copper, steel, brass, silver and gold all produce completely different effects with a transparent enamel on top but put opaque on and you wont see the metal. With this in mind choose the type of enamel carefully before you apply it to the metal.

metals A variety of metals are used in enamelling. The wires and tubes are generally not used for enamelling as the enamel does not adhere well but you can have success with some of the thicker ones. Copper, silver, 9 carat gold and 22 carat gold are all shown here. Enamels should be no thicker than the gauge of the metal unless it is coated both sides(counter enamelling).
Abrasives An old tooth brush, wet and dry paper, wire wool and a glass fibre brush, all used for cleaning.

Carborundum stones Carborundum stones for grinding enamel surfaces that are too high or uneven and for rough edges.
